CBJ Independence Day Holiday Closures and Reminders

City and Borough of Juneau offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day Holiday. Normal business hours (8 a.m. –  4:30 p.m.) will resume on Wednesday, July 5. Here’s what’s going on with CBJ facilities and services for the holiday:

  • Capital Transit and CAPITAL AKcess are not operating Tuesday, July 4 and will resume service Wednesday, July 5
  • Dimond Park Aquatic Center is closed Tuesday, July 4
  • Dimond Park Field House is closed Tuesday, July 4
  • Zach Gordon Youth Center is closed Tuesday, July 4
  • Shéiyi X̱aat Hít Youth Shelter is open and operating as normal Tuesday, July 4
  • Juneau Public Libraries are closed Tuesday, July 4. Book drops will be locked at 8 p.m. Monday, July 3 and reopened Wednesday morning, July 5.
  • Jensen-Olson Arboretum is closed Monday, July 3 and open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m Tuesday, July 4
  • Juneau-Douglas City Museum is closed Tuesday, July 4
  • RecycleWorks and the Household Hazardous Waste facility are closed Tuesday, July 4
Road closures:

  • A number of streets in Downtown Juneau will be closed for the Juneau Fourth of July parade, which begins at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4 at the Department of Labor building on West 8th Street. See details of the parade route and which streets are closed courtesy of JPD. The Juneau Police Department will close all of the referenced streets to vehicular traffic starting at about 10:20 a.m. to roughly 1 p.m.
  • Streets in Douglas will be closed or use alternative traffic patterns during the Douglas Fourth of July Parade, which begins at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4. The parade will follow the same route as last year.  See more details courtesy of JPD.
  • A portion of St. Ann’s Avenue in Douglas will be closed for the Douglas Fourth of July Soapbox Derby for Kids on Monday, July 3 from 3 p.m. to  8 p.m. and Sunday, July 4 from 3 p.m. until races are complete. During this time, the road will be barricaded, and both edges of St. Ann’s Avenue will be lined with tires.
Docks and Harbors:

  • Statter Harbor (Auke Bay) Office will be open 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m Tuesday, July 4. Statter Harbor field staff can be reached after hours via cell phone at 907-321-0935/VHF Radio.
  • Aurora Harbor Office will be closed Tuesday, July 4. Aurora Harbor field staff can be reached via cell phone at 907-321-1115/VHF Radio.
  • The Port Field Office will be open 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m Tuesday, July 4. Dock field staff can be reached after hours via cell phone at 907-321-4926/VHF Radio.
  • The Port Director’s Office will be closed Tuesday, July 4.
  • The Douglas Harbor launch ramp will be congested due to the holiday and use of the ramp may be restricted.
