From March 31, 2023 post.

Construction will take place along the Seawalk and in Overstreet Park through April 17 as Sealaska Heritage Institute raises totem poles at 11 locations along the waterfront. The totem poles, a part of SHI's Kootéeyaa Deiyí (Totem Pole Trail) project, include work by master artists and apprentices from Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian groups across Southeast Alaska.

The Seawalk will remain open for the majority of the construction period. Some temporary closures of specific sections will take place as needed to allow work vehicles to pass by or equipment to be delivered. Pedestrians are asked to remain alert while construction is underway and follow the guidance of posted signs or construction workers.

A dedication ceremony for the totem poles will be held on April 22 at Heritage Plaza by the Sealaska Heritage Arts Campus on Seward Street. The ceremony is open to all in the Juneau community and to people outside of Juneau, who can watch the live stream on SHI's YouTube. For more information about Kootéeyaa Deiyí (Totem Pole Trail), see SHI's news release at https://www.sealaskaheritage.org/node/1720.

For questions about construction, please contact Parks & Recreation at (907) 586-5226.
