February 16th | 10am-4pmCelebrate Elizabeth Peratrovich Day at the City Museum with learning and fun:
Learn about Elizabeth Peratrovich through an interactive scavenger hunt for all ages (younger children will require adult help). Complete the scavenger hunt and bring the completed booklet to the front desk to win a card of the downtown mural portrait of Elizabeth Peratrovich by Crystal Worl. Those who complete the scavenger hunt can also enter a drawing to win an Elizabeth Peratrovich commemorative $1 coin. A limited number of coins have been donated by ANS Camp #70 sisters. These coins are no longer available through the US Mint.
Visit with members from Glacier Valley ANB/ANS Camp #70 to learn about this civil rights organization.
Artist and doll maker Mary Ellen Frank will be onsite to demonstrate doll making and portraiture starting at 1:15pm. Mary Ellen Frank created the Elizabeth Peratrovich portrait doll currently on display at the City Museum.
Watch the documentary For the Rights of All: Ending Jim Crow in Alaska. The film is 56 minutes long and will run throughout the day.
Free copies of book In Sisterhood: The History of Camp 2 of the Alaska Native Sisterhood will be available thanks to a donation by Kim Metcalfe
Snacks will also be served and provided by ANS Camp #70 and the Friends of the Juneau-Douglas City Museum.
