Movement Labs alerted the division today they will be conducting a Get Out the Vote text message campaign in Alaska beginning tomorrow to encourage voting. These text messages are not coming from the division and the division did not give Movement Labs voters’ phone numbers.
Text messages will have voter’s name, address, and their polling location address. They are using information gathered from the Voting Information Project (votinginfoproject.org/about) and the Google Civics API (developers.google.com/civic-informat ) to identify voters’ polling locations and are sending that information, with a Google Street View image of the location attached, in a text message to the voter. They are using publicly available information to identify voters.
Don’t misconstrue their texts as being an official government communication, they will state clearly that they are NOT election officials and will urge people to visit our website - elections.alaska.gov
We highly encourage voters to visit the division’s website to find their voting locations and other information. It will be the most up to date.
