Project Playground

Childrens playground 2154556 1920

The City & Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation Department invites the community to come to Project Playground on Saturday, June 18, 2022, starting at 1:00 PM, for the dedication and installation of a commemorative plaque to honor the life and memory of Doctor George Brown.

Doctor Brown was a community pediatrician who served the children and families of Juneau for 15 years until his sudden and untimely death in December 2016. The Alaska Children’s Trust honored Dr. Brown posthumously with a Children’s Champion Award in the spring of 2018, which was presented to Dr. Brown’s family at a ceremony at the Governor’s House by Governor Bill Walker.

The Alaska’s Children’s Trust decided to further honor Dr. Brown by having a commemorative plaque made to honor him and his service to the children of Juneau and Alaska, which will be installed on the playground locomotive at Project Playground. Alaska Children’s Trust Executive Director Trevor Storrs will be in attendance, as will Dr. Amy Dressel, who practiced pediatrics with Dr. Brown for many years at Glacier Pediatrics here in Juneau. Dr. Brown’s twin brother John Brown and other members of Dr. Brown’s family will also be in attendance.

After the sign has been dedicated, there will be a fun run/walk from Project Playground along the Twin Lakes trail, and all are invited to participate in this fun outing. There will be refreshments provided by the Juneau Park Foundation and souvenir bookmarks provided by Dr. Brown’s family.

For more information, please contact Dr. Amy Dressel at 907-586-1542, or Benjamin Brown at 907-364-4682.
